For a first licence, you must have gained it within three years.

If you have held the licence before, you need a new qualification when more than three years have passed since the old licence was active. The awarding organisation notifies the SIA directly, and the application cannot be submitted until that notification arrives.
The SIA stopped accepting BIIAB qualifications granted on or after 11 August 2026. Earlier ones are still accepted.

This followed the SIA ending its endorsement of BIIAB. If your certificate was granted before that date it remains valid for an application. If you trained with a BIIAB centre after it, check with the centre that trained you which awarding organisation certificated you.
