India: Local Police Report or Police Clearance Certificate
You need this if you have lived in India for six continuous months or more in the last ten years.
Who can apply
Residents and non resident Indians, including non citizens who spent significant time in India. You can apply yourself, or a UK employer or authorised representative can submit your completed form with your written consent.
Where
In India, in person at your local police service or through a regional passport office. From the UK, through the High Commission of India in London.
What to supply
- Completed application form
- Passport photograph
- Certified copies of identity documents including passport
- Residential history, ten years is preferred
- Proof of payment
- From the UK: the original passport plus copies of the first four and last two pages
Translation
Certificates are usually issued in English. Anything not in English needs a translation from a translator the SIA accepts.
Watch out
Fees and turnaround vary by state, and postal applications inside India can take up to a month. Start early.
